Steven Spielberg
Steven Spielberg in '99
Steven Spielberg is a name that everybody knows. Nobody can question that, because almost everybody has seen one of his films. He started out young, first professionally directing at age 23, which was a show called Night Gallery ( Rod Serling's Night Gallery). From then on, his fame never stopped growing. His movies receive good reviews, and he is a director of many films. With his amazing directing skills, imagination skills, and the want to tell a story or two, Spielberg would be the one director to change the definition of “blockbuster”.
Steven Spielberg was born on December 18th, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Spielberg grew up having three sisters, and his mother worked as a concert pianist, and his father, Arnold, worked as an electrical engineer. He was born into a Jewish family, and at an early age was already producing amateur films with a camera owned by his father. In the late 1950’s, Spielberg became a boy scout, and wanting to earn his photography merit badge, he asked if he could make a film. The film he ended up making was called The Last Gunfight. It was a total of 9 minutes long. He received an education at Saratoga High School, and received a bachelors degree in electronic arts in 2002 at California State University, after starting for the degree in 1965 (The Bachelor). He also recieved an honorary degree from the University of Southern California..
Steven Spielberg has been a director all of his life, and never really had another job. His career started when he was hired to direct a pilot episode for Night Gallery in 1969. A couple of shows later, Universal signed with him after seeing how well he directed before. Spielberg is known for his extremely successful films, such as Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and E.T. With a total of over 30 films, his least successful film is probably the 1989 romance film Always, which only made around 13-15 million dollars profit, and is generally noted as a box office flop. He has won countless awards and nominations. He was nominated for an Oscar for best film of the year for War Horse, the same film that he won an AFI award for. He won an Oscar for Saving Private Ryan, too (Awards For Steven Spielberg). Some people like how he uses old style stories, and combine them with the latest special effects, and that definitely distinguishes him from the rest. Others talk about how he is the least understood director, but the most influential.
Steven Spielberg, still directing movies, has a wife, Kate Capshaw, 7 children total, one of which was adopted (Fun Trivia : Spielberg, Steven). They also have a dog, which is a border terrier, who is between at least 13 and 14 years old. He created the Medal of Honor series, which is a first person shooter (FPS) style video game, so he has other interests outside of directing films. This love for video games came in 1974, when he started playing Pong, while filming Jaws.
Spielberg has changed how the movie industry works. His use of letting the visuals tell the story really help convey the message. He was a teenager when he started doing this, which is amazing, because I would hate to do that (Steven Spielberg - Biography). Though he had a couple of failures, the majority of his work is full of success and that’s what his reputation is. Directors like Spielberg come once in a lifetime, and they will probably never live up to the standards of Spielberg.
